Varieties of farmers walks are very popular in a number of strength and conditioning settings. This variety loads one side of your body whilst you are doing all you can to remain stable, upright and with a stiff torso. Naturally you will have less overall weight in your hands than if you hand both arms loaded as this would make you more stable, but the instability caused by loading one side throws a huge amount of work into the outside of the abdominals and hips. This makes this an extremely useful core development exercise for performers.
