Side plank split stance

The good old side plank has had an upgrade. If you are wanting to target the obliques and lateral flexors of the trunk then using the split stance position will be a better choice, over the traditional technique of having your feet stacked. This will ensure more of the work is put into the lateral muscles of the trunk (the flank) and less into the lateral aspect of the hip (hip abductors).
