The sibling of the Shoulder Lateral Rotation is the other quintessential rotator cuff exercise, the Shoulder Medial Rotation with your arm at your side. As with Lateral Rotation version, this exercise lacks specificity when you are either in pain or have a history of shoulder pain. What tends to happen is the large, more power producing muscles that act over the shoulder come in and work to a high degree which often leaves the supposed target muscle (subscapularis) vastly under utilised.
